The Sweet Springs Ambulance Board is continuing its effort to attempt to purchase I-70 Community Hospital.

According to unofficial minutes from the most-recent Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Franny Vaught said he received a letter from Dennis Dohrman, representing the Ambulance Board. He said the Ambulance Board is asking for financial support for the hospital. Dohrman, who also was present, said the committee is going to go through with trying to purchase the hospital.

Mayor Vaught said the hospital is very important to the community. Dohrman said any funds the ambulance board gets will be used to help with getting the issue on the ballot and legal fees.

Aldermen approved a motion to support the reestablishment of I-70 Community Hospital to what extent the city is able.

I-70 community Hospital was scheduled to be sold late last year, but the group that put in the strongest bid reportedly could not secure enough funding to finalize the purchase. Thus, a bank in Oklahoma filed foreclosure paperwork.

The facility has sat vacant since suspending operations on February 15, 2019.
