Rep. Kurtis Gregory, R-Marshall, is pushing for Waverly, to be recognized as the “Apple Capital of Missouri.” Waverly hosts the state apple judging competition annually and celebrates the popular Apple Jubilee event in September.

The town cultivates various apple varieties, including Red Delicious and Golden Delicious, across hundred acres of orchards. Gregory hopes to boost tourism by securing this designation. Waverly’s apple industry emerged in the late 1800s.

The proposed bill is currently being reviewed by a Missouri House committee, which is expected to vote on it soon.
