The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education hired and promoted coaches for the boys basketball and girls wrestling programs during its meeting on Monday, April 15.

The board approved the promotion of Morgan Renfrow to head coach of the Smith-Cotton High School girls wrestling program. Renfrow has been an assistant coach in the combined Tigers girls and boys program since the 2018-19 school year.
Joe Hulsey, who has been serving as head coach of the S-C boys and girls wrestlers, will now focus on the boys program.

Renfrow, an early childhood special education teacher, earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Missouri Valley College and a master’s in elementary administration from William Woods University.

The board also approved the hiring of Brennan Scanlon as Smith-Cotton High School boys basketball head coach. Scanlon was the Tigers head coach from 2014-16, when he led S-C to its first boys basketball conference title in 19 years.
Scanlon returns to S-C, where he had a record of 34-17 with two West Central Conference titles, after serving as head coach at Oak Park High School in the North Kansas City School District.

Scanlon graduated from Central Methodist University in Fayette in May 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Before his first tenure at Smith-Cotton, he was head basketball coach at Mexico High School and Elsberry High School; he also had served as an assistant basketball coach at Rock Bridge High School, Fayette High School and CMU.

In 2012, he was inducted into the Rock Bridge Athletic Hall of Fame, and during his playing career he was a USA Today High School Basketball All American (1996 and ‘97) and a McDonald’s High School Basketball All American (1997).
