Work began in January on a five-county project to bring pedestrian facilities in 10 mid-Missouri communities into compliance with the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A large part of the project involves improving ramps at curbs and fixing broken segments of sidewalks.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,176,984.87 contract for this work, which is set to be completed by November 1, 2024. Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) have passed the halfway point with improvements complete in Armstrong, California, Fayette, Roanoke, Stover, Syracuse, and Tipton. Only sod placement remains for these communities. Once the sod is placed, MoDOT will do a final inspection, and either accept the work or ask the contractor to make corrections.
Crews continue to work in Harrisburg and Fayette, then plan to move to Lone Elm and Hallsville. Because the work is highly weather-dependent, schedules are subject to change.
Below are the following routes included in the three remaining communities:
-Harrisburg (Boone County): Route 124 from Wilhite Street to the church entrance; and Route J from private drive to Midblock Crossing.
-Lone Elm (Cooper County): Route B from the cemetery to the church.
-Hallsville (Boone County): Missouri Route 124 from the school entrance to Bertie Avenue; Route 124 from Fairview Street to Route B; and Route B from Kathryn Durk Drive to Route 124.
