State Fair Community College took part in the NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing on April 17, 2024. This national event sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.

This year, State Fair Community College participated in this event with more than 75 institutions across the country. New students from local high schools as well as students continuing their education through other pathways attended the event to sign for the 2024-25 school year and participated in a signing ceremony, similar to an athletic signing.

In addition to having hosted this celebratory event for 112 incoming students at their institution, Joseph Sokolov, from Smithton Highschool, Elaina Wirths, from Pilot Grove Highschool and David Thomlinson, from Northwest Highschool were chosen as recipients of The Skilled Trades – 3M Transformational Scholarship, a national scholarship offered through 3M and the National Coalition of Certification Centers.

This scholarship provides schools the ability to build within their communities by focusing on bridging gaps of inequality with the highest standards of skilled trades and education. Sokolov and Thomlinson both plan to go into Welding Technology, while Wirths will go into the Construction Management Technology program at SFCC
