Severe weather rolled through our area Thursday night, leaving downed trees and causing power outages for several communities.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill received reports of golf ball sized hail (1.75 inches) in Huntsville, while thunderstorm gusts of at least 70 miles per hour were measured in northern Johnson County. Randolph County emergency management director David Gaines tells KMMO News that several houses and cars in Higbee were damaged by fallen trees, including one house whose roof was punctured by a tree. Gaines added that no injuries were reported.

Howard County emergency management director Bryan Kunze says that power was out in the city of Fayette for about an hour before crews were able to restore it. The northeastern part of Chariton County was twice under a tornado warning; however, no touchdowns have been confirmed by the National Weather Service. At least one tree was reported uprooted in the northern part of Marceline. Several areas also reported fallen trees and downed power lines.

Crews with Evergy and several electric cooperatives spent Friday morning restoring power to their customers.  You can check on the latest power outages from the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives and Evergy.
