Maikel Garcia delivered a two-out line drive to left field to snatch victory for the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon, defeating the New York Yankees 4-3.

The Royals relied on a strong pitching performance from Alec Marsh, who held the Yankees hitless through six innings, striking out seven while allowing two walks. The Royals scored two runs in the fourth when Vinnie Pasquantino doubled in Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr. The Yankees would seize the lead in the eighth, first with a home run from Anthony Rizzo, then a groundout by Anthony Volpe and single from Juan Soto. James McArthur earned his third win of the year, allowing one hit while striking out one in the ninth. Clay Holmes suffered his second loss of the year and fourth blown save attempt.

The Royals picked up a half-game on Cleveland and are five games behind the Guardians in the AL Central, with a record of 40-30. The fourth straight series against a division leader begins tonight, with the Royals on the road to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine. Game one from Dodgers Stadium is at 9:10, with pregame from 8:30 on KMMO.
