MJ Melendez took Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen to 12 pitches before belting his first career grand slam, delivering the Kansas City Royals a 7-2 victory Saturday night at Dodgers Stadium.

The Royals scored first with Nick Loftin’s groundout in the fourth bringing home Vinnie Pasquantino. The Dodgers responded with their two runs coming off the bat of Gavin Lux. After Melendez’ grand slam to right field in the sixth, the Royals added two in the seventh. Despite giving up two runs, Seth Lugo pitched a scoreless sixth to earn his tenth win of the season. He struck out four while allowing six hits and one walk.

The Royals move to 41-31 on the season, five games back in the AL Central. The final game against the Dodgers is this afternoon at 3:10, with pregame at 2:30 on KMMO-AM.
