James William Reid, 86, of Houstonia, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home. He was born on August 19, 1937, in Pettis County, MO, the son of Joe Bill Reid and Josephine (Bartlett) Reid, who preceded him in death.

On June 25, 1954 in Houstonia, MO, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Walk, who resides in the home.

Jimmie was a 1955 graduate of Houstonia School where he excelled in basketball and softball. He worked on the family farm growing up as a young man until eventually taking it over. He raised row crop, cattle, hogs, and sheep. Jimmie made many friends and relationships through his hard work and willingness to help everyone in need. Jimmie enjoyed hunting and going with his wife Betty and family to Bennett Springs to trout fish. He and Betty also enjoyed spending their evenings following Northwest High School sports. Jimmie’s greatest passion was farming and visiting with his friends and neighbors.

In addition to his wife, Jimmie is survived by a son, Steve Reid (Mindy) of Houstonia; a son-in-law, Ken Clemons; four grandchildren, Brad, Courtney, Tyler, Stefanie; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jo Minor (Eddie) of Houstonia; two nephews, Bill Meyer and Brian Harris; and a niece, Audrey Harris.

In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by a daughter Janet Clemons; and a sister, Marilyn Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eddie Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

The burial will be at Houstonia Cemetery, Houstonia, MO.

Pallbearers will be Eric Cornine, Don Hopkins, Rick Alexander, Robin Pummill, Dustin Meyer, and Delbert Johnson.

Honorary bearers will be Lloyd Shireman, Delmar Cornine, and Gene Cornine.

Memorial contributions may be made to Range Line Presbyterian Church in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
