Marie was born July 24, 1937, in Emma, MO, the daughter of the late Walter and Flora (Heermann) Hemme. Marie was a 1955 graduate of Concordia High School. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City and worked in the office of General Electric Credit Corporation and then Hardware Mutual Insurance Company. On August 11, 1956, she married LaVern Meyer of Concordia, MO at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, MO. This marriage was blessed with three children. When Marie and LaVern moved to Concordia in 1958, she worked in the office of Missouri Public Service, then in the office of the Burlington Garment Factory and later for Chet Fiene Tax Service.

Marie was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church serving on the Altar Guild for 25 years and also on the Greeters Team. Marie was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary having served as Americanism Chairman and on other various committees.

Marie and LaVern enjoyed traveling including all 50 United States and over 50 foreign countries. They were truly moved by their trip to the Holy Land and the Sea of Galilee.

For 10 years, Marie, Melba Jean Fischer and Marlene Lange used various military items (Flags, posters, models of military airplanes, etc.) to create changing displays in Curt & Karol’s front business window on Main Street. They considered it a huge privilege to honor all military personnel and veterans.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, LaVern of Concordia, MO; two daughters, Wanda (Kent) Torbeck of Stockton, MO and Carol Mueller of Emma, MO; one son, Kenneth Meyer of Kansas City, MO; one granddaughter, Jackie of Holden, MO; three great-grandsons, Jack, Nicholas and Alexander; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Waldo Hemme; and both sisters, Byonda Sylvester and Rosella Smith.

Marie lived a life of love, generosity and gratitude. She will be missed but we have comfort knowing she is in her Heavenly Home.
