The Oakland Athletics claimed all seven of their runs off starter Alec Marsh, then held on to defeat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Tuesday night at Oakland Coliseum.

Marsh was roughed up early by the last-place and Sacramento-bound A’s, giving up RBI hits in the first and third. A three-run home run with no outs in the fourth brought Marsh’s night to an end, having given up seven hits and two walks but striking out four. The Royals tagged A’s starter Hogan Harris for three runs, including Nick Loftin’s home run in the second that tied the game. Loftin also had an RBI in the eighth on a groundout that brought home Salvador Perez.

The loss puts the Royals at 41-33, still five games behind Cleveland in the AL Central as the Guardians lost their third straight game. However, the Royals are now third in the division, as the Twins have a half-game lead on second place amid a six-game winning streak.

Game two of the Royals’ series at Oakland continues tonight, with pregame at 8 p.m. on KMMO. First pitch is 8:40.
