The second-straight St Louis Cardinals game to go into extra innings did not go the way of the Redbirds, as the Miami Marlins scored twice in the tenth to win 9-8 on Tuesday night in Miami.

A pair of home runs opened the game, with Paul Goldschmidt bringing two runs in with his shot to right field, and Jesús Sánchez bringing in the Marlins’ first three runs. Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson also hit home runs for the Cardinals, as did Christian Bethancourt for the Marlins. Dylan Carlson brought in the automatic runner in the top of the tenth with a sacrifice fly, but Chris Roycroft was unable to hold the Marlins down, giving up three singles that brought in the tying and winning runs. Starter Lance Lynn was charged with six runs (five earned) and ten hits but five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

The Cardinals are now 36-36, 6.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. The final game of the series gets underway Wednesday at 11:40 a.m.
