The City of Marshall will have a tree planting ceremony Thursday afternoon, with the aim of becoming the latest Tree City USA certified community.

Mayor Vince Lutterbie says he’ll declare an Arbor Day for the city, as crews plant a tree near the North Point Shelter at Indian Foothills Park. Lutterbie adds that the ceremony is part of the city’s effort to earn the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Certified Tree City USA communities have established a tree board, passed a tree care ordinance, and committed to spending at least $2 per resident on forest management. The tree planting ceremony in Marshall will begin at 3 p.m.
