The St Louis Cardinals suffered another walk-off loss Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Miami Marlins 4-3 at loanDepot Park.

The Cardinals fell behind early with back-to-back home runs given up by Matthew Liberatore, who found himself starting the game on short notice after Kyle Gibson was scratched with back tightness. However, the Cardinals would tie the game in the second, with Nolan Gorman hitting a home run of his own and Brendan Donovan singling in Nolan Arenado. Miami retook the lead in the sixth, but a fielding error in the seventh allowed Masyn Winn to tie the game back up. Ultimately, a single by Otto Lopez to right field brought in the winning run from second after Alec Burleson was unable to set up the relay. Ryan Fernandez gave up the winning run on two hits to claim his second loss of the year.

The Cardinals are back below .500 at 36-37, but still second in the NL Central and in the third and final wild card spot were the season to end today.

It’s a home game for the Cardinals this Thursday evening, but not in St Louis, as the Redbirds will take on the San Francisco Giants at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, as part of Major League Baseball’s Tribute to the Negro Leagues. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
