The region’s two Major League Soccer teams dropped home contests Wednesday night and find themselves near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Sporting Kansas City fell behind early and were unable to keep up with Real Salt Lake, losing 4-3 at Children’s Mercy Park. Stephen Afrifa notched Sporting’s first goal in the 28th minute to level the game, but that was the closest the hosts would get to the points. Anderson Julio put RSL back in the lead five minutes later, then Andres Gómez netted his second goal of the game in the 51st minute. Willie Agada had two goals in the second half for Sporting, who remain 13th in the conference on 14 points.

St Louis City SC’s sophomore slump continues, as they were unable to find the back of the net at CITYPark against the Colorado Rapids. Djordie Mihailovic completed the hat trick with goals in the ninth, 60th, and 96th minutes to give Colorado the 3-0 victory. St Louis drop to 12th in the conference with 18 points.

Both teams are back in action Saturday against Eastern Conference squads, with Sporting on the road to the Columbus Crew, while St Louis host Atlanta United.
