Home runs from Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez in the fourth inning ended the Kansas City Royals’ 25-inning scoreless drought, en route to a 4-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday night at Kauffman Stadium.

The Marlins struck first in the third inning, when Bryan De La Cruz doubled in what turned out to be Miami’s only run of the game. The Royals’ two home runs in the fourth were followed up by Kyle Isbel’s single to bring home Michael Massey. Hunter Renfroe added a home run in the sixth.

Cole Ragans struck out 11 in his six innings, allowing four hits and three walks. The Royals bullpen kept the Marlins hitless the rest of the game, collecting another four strikeouts and granting James McArthur his 13th save of the season.

The Royals were able to right the ship, but could only keep pace in the AL Central, as the Guardians won last night to keep the Royals nine games back in the division. Game two against the Marlins is Tuesday evening at 7:10 p.m., with pregame at 6:30 on KMMO.
