The St Louis Cardinals needed just one inning to take care of the Atlanta Braves, claiming a 4-3 win Monday night at Busch Stadium.

All four runs came in the third inning, as Alec Burleson brought in the first run with a double followed by Willson Contreras and Brendan Donovan singling in runs. Donovan sacrificed himself on the basepath, allowing Nolan Gorman to swipe home uncontested while Donovan was caught in a run-down attempting to steal second. Atlanta belted one home run off starter Lance Lynn in the fifth inning, who went 6.2 innings to allow four hits while striking out five. Despite allowing two runs in the ninth, Ryan Helsley completed his 27th consecutive save attempt to continue leading the majors.

The Redbirds are now winners of their last four, keeping up with Milwaukee in the NL Central as the Brewers remain five games ahead. Game two of the Cardinals’ series against Atlanta is Tuesday evening at 6:45.
