A 32-percent increase in insurance costs awaits Sedalia Schools this coming academic year.

At Tuesday night’s board of education meeting, the Sedalia School Board accepted the price increase for property and liability insurance from Midwest Public Risk. Superintendent Dr Todd Fraley says most insurance policies have seen similar spikes in recent years.

The district was able to trim $16,711.76 off the cost of the ongoing athletic complex construction project, with the board approving a change order with Hollis+Miller.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the Sedalia School Board accepted a donation from Duke Manufacturing to provide heat lamps for Whittier High School, as well as accepted a bid from MTS Contracting for caulking and concrete patch work at Smith-Cotton High School’s stadium. The board also approved the purchase of a maintenance truck from W-K Chevrolet for $55,797 and upgrades to the Smith-Cotton High School intercom system totaling $24,467.
