Alec Burleson’s sacrifice fly in the third inning brought in the St Louis Cardinals’ only run, as pitching carried the night in the 1-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night at Busch Stadium.

The lone scoring play came with one out, when Burleson’s fly ball to short brought in Michael Siani. Starting pitcher Chris Pallante went 5.1 innings to get his fourth win of the season, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five. The bullpen combined to strike out four and walk one, with Ryan Helsley earning his 29th save of the year.

With the win, the Cardinals advance to 42-39 on the season, remaining 6.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central and one game ahead of the Mets for the third wild card spot. Game three of the Cardinals’ series against the Reds is at 1:15 on Saturday afternoon.
