The U.S. Men’s Soccer Team fell to Uruguay 1-0 on Monday night at Arrowhead Stadium, failing to advance past the group stage of Copa America.

The only goal came in the 67th minute, when Mathías Olivera capitalized on a ball that goalkeeper Matt Turner didn’t field cleanly. The goal was allowed to stand despite a lenghty video review and several protests from American players who said that Olivera’s teammate was offside. The U.S. were playing without forward Tim Weah, who was suspended after his red card in Thursday’s 2-1 loss to Panama. Team USA attempted eight shots, three on target, but could not find the back of the net.

The U.S. finished third in their group, having only beaten Bolivia, and will fail to enter the knockout stages for the first time in an international tournament hosted on American soil. The setback will put more pressure on head coach Gregg Berhalter, who had been rehired by Team USA last year after his contract was not renewed in 2022.
