Nolan Gorman delivered the St Louis Cardinals’ first grand slam of the season, launching the Cardinals to a 7-4 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night at PNC Park.

The Redbirds were already leading 2-0 after Alec Burleson’s home run in the third, when with no outs in the fourth, Gorman connected on a sweeper from Mitch Keller to send his 17th home run of the year into the stands. The Pirates responded with a pair of home runs in the fifth to account for all four of their runs. The Cardinals added insurance in the seventh with a Brendan Donovan single.

Kyle Gibson allowed the two home runs but claimed his sixth win of the year with eight strikeouts, allowing five hits and one walk. Ryan Helsley collected his 31st consecutive save.

The Cardinals are 44-40, six games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central but continue to separate themselves from the rest of the division with a four-game advantage for second, as well as a half-game lead on the second wild card spot. The Redbirds will continue their series against Pittsburgh on Wednesday with first pitch at 5:40.
