The Pittsburgh Pirates prevailed in extra innings over the St Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night, plating two in the tenth to walk off with the 5-4 win.

The Cardinals scored first in the top of the fifth with Masyn Winn’s grounder to center, bringing home Brandon Crawford. The Pirates responded with two in the bottom half by way of a fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly. A home run by Rowdy tellez in the seventh made it 3-1 Pirates, but Willson Contreras tied the game in the eighth with his two-run blast over center field. Alec Burleson brought in the Cardinals’ courtesy runner in the tenth with a sacrifice fly, but a walk and two singles led to the Pirates’ win.

JoJo Romero suffered his fourth blown save of the year, allowing the two decisive hits, while Andrew Kittredge was tagged with the loss for starting the tenth and walking the eventual game-winning run. The loss spoiled a quality start from Miles Mikolas, who went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four.

The Cardinals remain second in the NL Central with a 44-41 record, seven games behind Milwaukee for the division lead and now one-and-a-half games ahead of the Mets for the third wild card spot. The series at PNC Park concludes Thursday afternoon with first pitch at 11:35.
