The Kansas City Royals evened their series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium, picking up a 4-2 win.

Tampa Bay picked up the first run of the game with Isaac Paredes’ home run in the top of the first. The Royals took the lead in the third after Bobby Witt Junior’s double scored Kyle Isbel, followed by a Vinnie Pasquantino single. Salvador Perez also picked up a pair of RBIs with a double in the seventh. The Rays threatened to tie the game in the ninth, but with one out and a runner on second, Isbel made a catch against the center field wall that prevented a run from scoring.  That ultimately granted James McArthur his 15th save of the year.

Michael Wacha picked up his fifth win of the year, allowing just one run, two hits and three walks in six innings while striking out eight.

Kansas City is now 48-40, seven games behind Cleveland in the AL Central and still a half-game ahead of Boston for the third wild card spot. The Royals will conclude their 10-game home stand Thursday evening with their series finale against Tampa Bay. Pregame is at 6:30 on KMMO, with first pitch at 7:10.
