It took just six pitches for the Seattle Mariners to get on the board, as the St Louis Cardinals gave up five runs in the first inning, en route to a 10-4 loss Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

The Mariners batted around as Cal Raleigh and Luke Raley picked up multiple RBIs in their first at-bat. Seattle added two more in the second with a home run from Randy Arozarena. The Cardinals got on the board in the home half of the frame when José Fermín’s single brought in Nolan Arenado and Iván Herrera. The Mariners added two more in the fifth when Jorge Polanco went yard to center field, while the Cardinals collected a pair of runs off a Jordan Walker double in the eighth.

Miles Mikloas was done after two innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits while striking out three. Mariners starter Luis Castillo was on track for the win before he left the game with an injury in the fourth. Trent Thornton pitched two scoreless frames to claim the win for Seattle.

The Cardinals (72-71) remain ten games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central and six games behind Atlanta and New York, who are now tied for the third wild card spot. St Louis have Monday off before welcoming Cincinnati to Busch Stadium for a three-game series.
