Just a day removed from the Royals bullpen coughing up seven runs to the New York Yankees, starting pitcher Seth Lugo recorded ten strikeouts and held the Bronx Bombers to just three singles in a 5-0 victory for Kansas City on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The Royals recorded a pair of RBI singles in the third, delivered by Bobby Witt Jr and Salvador Perez. Perez added another RBI in the fifth, while Tommy Pham had his second home run as a Royal in the seventh. Pinch-runner Dairon Blanco swiped two bases in the eighth, positioning himself to score the final run on a sacrifice fly from Maikel Garcia.

Lugo went seven innings in the win, allowing no walks. Kris Bubic and John Screiber each recorded two strikeouts in their respective inning of work.

The Guardians and Twins both won last night, keeping Kansas City 3.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central while 2.5 games ahead of Minnesota for the second wild card spot. The rubber match against the Yankees is Wednesday evening, with pregame at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch at 6:05 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
