A Smithton man was killed Tuesday morning after he was struck by a truck in a work zone on a Pettis County highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Route O about five miles north of Beaman at around 11:15 a.m. According to the Patrol, 60-year-old Jay Bone was struck by a northbound Peterbilt driven by an 18-year-old driver from Hughesville. Bone was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a social media post Wednesday morning, the Missouri Department of Transportation said that Bone was a senior maintenance worker who had worked for the department since 2015. The highway patrol continues to investigate the incident.
