The Kansas City Royals’ franchise record 26-inning scoreless streak came to an end in the series finale against the Washington Nationals, but that didn’t stop the Royals from completing the sweep with a 7-4 win on Thursday.

Both teams traded runs early, with the Nationals scoring a run off of Michael Wacha in the bottom of the first. Hunter Renfroe responded in the second with a solo homer, his 14th blast of the year.

Kansas City took the lead in the third with RBI singles from Tommy Pham, Bobby Witt Jr. and Yuli Gurriel, but Washington would respond with a three-run home run from Luis Garcia Jr.

The game would remain tied until the ninth, when Adam Frazier drove in two with a single, giving the Royals a lead. Salvador Perez added another run with an RBI single. Lucas Erceg closed out the ninth for his 14th save.

Kris Bubic earned the win, tossing a scoreless eighth. Wacha didn’t factor into the decision, going five innings, allowing four runs (three earned), five hits and a walk. He struck out two in the outing.

The Royals improve to 85-74 and remain tied with Detroit after the Tigers swept the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Royals are back in action Friday to start the final series of the regular season. The Royals will face the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park beginning at 6:20 p.m.
