The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present its fall instrumental and vocal concerts on separate nights in October.

The Concert and Jazz Bands will perform at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, while the Chamber and Contemporary Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 10. Both events will take place in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. Admission to both events is free, and donations are welcome.

SFCC instructor Joe Schreimann will direct the Concert and Jazz Bands. The Concert Band will perform a variety of pieces, including “Wings of Army” by Karl King, “Loch Lomond” by Frank Ticheli, “Chorale and Shaker Dance II” by John Zdechlik, “Benediction” by John Stevens, and music from Wicked by Stephen Schwartz.

The Jazz Band’s program includes “Crunchy Frog” by Gordon Goodwin, “Children of Sanchez” by Chuck Mangione, “So What” by Miles Davis, “Gonna Let It Shine” by Pete Havely, and “Poker Face” by Stefani Germanotta.

The Chamber and Contemporary Choirs will be directed by Dr. Christopher Kindle. The Contemporary Choir’s lineup includes “Choose Your Fighter,” “Turn the Lights Back On,” “Fix You,” “Dream On,” and “Keep It Movin’.” The Chamber Choir will perform “Inkosi Namandla,” “Flight Song,” “Viva!,” “All of Me,” and “Lift Every Voice for Freedom.” Cheryl McCollester will accompany the choirs, and Russ Schupp will provide percussion.

Students participating in these performances represent a wide array of majors and communities, showcasing the diverse talent within SFCC. The concerts highlight how music education contributes to students’ academic and personal growth by fostering discipline, creativity, and collaboration.
